Cannabis can be a communal experience or a private treat, but one thing is for certain — it reaches several different communities and cultures. We love seeing those connections at Revel and Rouse, and we work toward bridging the gap between these divisions even further. This mindset allows us to search for fresh perspectives to give everyday cannabis consumers an understanding of the possibilities they have in this space.

Produced in San Francisco, California, Mellows are made with a premium, single-origin Red Congolese sativa. Each marshmallow comes in at 5mg of THC and is lab tested for consistency and quality. You can pick up a box of 12 individual marshmallows in a unique gourmet flavor, or try their variety box, which includes several of their most popular flavors. You can find them at several of our favorite dispensaries, including Harvest and The Apothecarium.

Today, we look outside of the industry, to the regular consumers to understand their perspectives on cannabis packaging, product quality and overall effect. We chatted with real estate agent Heather P. about her recent experience with Mellows Handcrafted Marshmallows.

Why did you choose this product?

This product was suggested by a friend and frequent, low-dose cannabis consumer. My friend let me know that some flavors could be very sweet, so I thought I would try out having one 5mg marshmallow after dinner as a special treat.

What was your experience with the product?

After opening the package, which included gold embossing that resembled a light fluffy marshmallow, I immediately fell in love with the flavor. The quality of the taste was my favorite part of the experience. Out of the different flavors I tried, my favorite was Peanut Butter Pretzel, which had a nice balance of sweet and salty. They also offer classic flavors like Birthday Cake, Cookies + Cream, Orange Dreamsicle and Strawberry Shortcake. They also have a marshmallow that has an herbal and earthy taste while still remaining sweet, Brown Butter Sage. That flavor felt the most gourmet out of all flavors.

Each marshmallow had a 5mg THC dose, which overall, had a nice calming effect and allowed me to easily fall asleep. As someone who doesn’t always consume edibles, I started slow by consuming only half of a single piece. I learned that the packaging is not air-tight, and it did not keep the fluffiness and moisture of the marshmallow over time. It’s best to consume a whole marshmallow in one sitting to retain the texture and flavor profile. With such a low dose per marshmallow, more frequent cannabis consumers will likely not run into this issue.

Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, I would definitely recommend this product! I think it can help new consumers who are looking to relax. For me, it helped to get me to a relaxed state where I could easily fall asleep but did not knock me out or get me too high. Overall, it had a very light and euphoric high that I hope many others can also enjoy.

If you’re thinking of checking out Mellows Handcrafted Marshmallows, be sure to try their limited edition flavors while they are still in stock! This includes a S’mores flavor that’s perfect to pack on your next camping trip, and our personal favorite, Raspberry Rose Lychee. Although you could torch Mellows to make s’mores, they tend to become gooey and don’t hold their shape well. We wouldn’t recommend using them in baked goods, as the THC can burn off if they are heated too long or at too high of a temperature. Looking for ways to incorporate the s’mores flavor? You can still enjoy them by letting them dissolve in your hot cocoa, coffee or tea!
